Tick Removal, Bite Evaluation & Treatment in Mohegan Lake, NY

At PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Mohegan Lake, New York, we understand the threat a tick bite can pose. While not all ticks transmit disease, some carry the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), approximately 476,000 Americans are diagnosed and treated for Lyme disease on a yearly basis. However, the CDC is quick to point out that this number may include individuals who are treated for the disease but do not have a confirmed diagnosis. No matter what, though, Lyme disease is a significant concern, especially during tick season, which runs from April through October in the northeastern U.S.

Our Tick Bite & Lyme Disease Process

You can come to PhysicianOne Urgent Care for tick removal and bite evaluation. One of our knowledgeable practitioners can expertly remove the tick for you and then clean and evaluate the bite. We’ll ask how long the tick has been attached to you and if it’s been longer than 36 hours, we may prescribe a prophylactic antibiotic to reduce the risk of Lyme disease. Otherwise, we will send you home with a comprehensive treatment plan that includes information about the symptoms of Lyme disease to be on the lookout for. These include:

  • A bull’s-eye rash around the bite area
  • Fever
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Chills
  • Neck stiffness
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Body aches
  • Headache

Lyme disease symptoms can show up weeks after being bitten, so it’s important to come straight to our urgent care center if you start feeling under the weather or develop a rash. We will complete a physical examination and may order blood tests to determine if you have the disease. If so, antibiotics can be ordered to clear up the infection, if needed.

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
