We’re accredited by the Urgent Care Association (UCA) and affiliated with Tufts Medical Center, and we skillfully treat Brockton, Massachusetts, residents and visitors at our local office.

Do You Have a Wet Cough or a Dry Cough?

To answer this, you’ll need to ask yourself the following series of questions about your cough symptoms:

  • Is your cough bringing up phlegm or mucus?
  • Are you wheezing?
  • Do you have a rattling feeling inside your chest?
  • Are you experiencing a runny nose or postnasal drip?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you most likely have a wet cough (also referred to as a “productive cough”). This type of cough is often caused by asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the common cold, influenza (the flu), or pneumonia.

If you answered “no” to the questions listed above, then you probably have a dry cough. This type of cough typically results from respiratory tract irritation or inflammation, which may in turn be caused by allergies, asthma, COVID-19, croup, an environmental irritant, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), laryngitis, a sinus infection, tonsilitis, or an upper respiratory infection such as a cold or the flu.

"Throughout the visit I felt like the staff really cared. The Doctor took his time talking with me about my symptoms, and I felt like he listened to all my concerns and took that into consideration when recommending the right treatment. Thank you!"

Patient
Hamden, CT

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
