What Are Seasonal Allergies?

Not everyone deals with seasonal allergies, but if you do, you’re one in a million! According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as many as 60 million people in the United States have seasonal allergies. If you have this condition, it means that your immune system identifies pollen or another otherwise harmless substance (such as grass) as dangerous and, as such, tries to destroy it when you breathe it in. In doing so, your body responds with symptoms such as:

  • Sneezing
  • A stuffy or runny nose
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Fatigue
  • A scratchy throat
  • Headaches

For most seasonal allergy sufferers, over-the-counter antihistamines, decongestants, and nasal sprays can provide the relief they’re looking for. Other lifestyle changes can be effective, such as investing in a HEPA filter or a dehumidifier and washing your clothes and taking a shower immediately after coming in from outside.

Medical Treatment for Seasonal Allergies

If over-the-counter medication isn’t providing the relief you need, our urgent care center can help. We can talk to you about allergy shots and prescribe a stronger medication, including prescription eye drops, combination drugs, and oral and nasal steroids.

You can walk right in to PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Waterbury for prompt allergy treatment. We’re open every day of the year and you can check in online to expedite your visit.

"Throughout the visit I felt like the staff really cared. The Doctor took his time talking with me about my symptoms, and I felt like he listened to all my concerns and took that into consideration when recommending the right treatment. Thank you!"

Patient

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
