If your child is new to playing sports, you may be wondering what a sports physical is and how it differs from an annual physical. While annual physicals tend to be more comprehensive—also considering a child’s developmental, emotional, and social health—a sports physical is focused on determining whether there are any health issues that would prevent a child from participating in their chosen sport. To reach this determination, one of our experienced providers will review your child’s medical and family histories and then conduct a physical examination.
If you’re concerned about whether your child will be able to participate, don’t give up hope—in many cases, accommodations can be made in order to ensure a safe playing experience. For instance, if your child has asthma, we might be able to prescribe a special inhaler for them to use at practice and during games.
