Camp Physicals Provided on a Walk-In Basis in Hamden, CT

If you have children who are going to be attending summer camp this year, you’ll likely need to have a camp physical completed by a medical professional. Rather than trying to fit in this examination during your pediatrician’s limited office hours, you can come to PhysicianOne Urgent Care for a walk-in camp physical at a time that works best for you. Our facility in Hamden, Connecticut, is open seven days per week with extended evening hours and we never require appointments, so you can stop by when it’s convenient for your family.

Our Camp Physicals

A camp physical screens children for pre-existing medical conditions that could affect their health and safety while participating in camp activities, such as hiking, swimming, horseback riding, sports, and more. It also ensures the child is up-to-date on all necessary immunizations. And the medical professional conducting the camp physical can provide strategies to ensure any health conditions—such as asthma or allergies—can be effectively handled while away at camp.

A camp physical will entail:

  • Reviewing the child’s medical and family history
  • Taking vitals (pulse, temperature, respiration rate, and blood pressure)
  • Getting an accurate height and weight measurement
  • Evaluating a child’s heart, lungs, abdomen, ears, nose, throat, and joints
  • Doing a vision screening

If your child does have an underlying condition or if he or she had a recent injury that camp counselors should be aware of, it will be noted on the physical exam form. The medical professional you see will also answer any questions you have about physical activity, childhood development, and more.

"Throughout the visit I felt like the staff really cared. The Doctor took his time talking with me about my symptoms, and I felt like he listened to all my concerns and took that into consideration when recommending the right treatment. Thank you!"

Patient

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
