Is It a Sore Throat, or Is It Strep Throat?

While throat soreness is often caused by a virus—and, as such, can generally be treated at home—a bacterial infection is the cause of strep throat. If your sore throat is accompanied by a fever, severe pain when swallowing, red spots on the roof of the mouth, or swollen tonsils, you may be dealing with strep throat. At PhysicianOne Urgent Care, we can perform a rapid strep test to determine the cause of your symptoms and then, if appropriate, prescribe antibiotics to clear up the infection.

Is It COVID-19?

COVID-19 is an infection that is caused by a coronavirus strain called SARS-CoV-2, and one of its main symptoms is a sore throat. It makes sense that you might be worried you’ve contracted COVID-19 if you’re dealing with throat soreness—and especially so if you’re dealing with any of the other symptoms of strep throat, like having a fever. Thankfully, PhysicianOne Urgent Care can help. We can evaluate your symptoms during a virtual visit and then register you for a COVID-19 test at our urgent care center in Derby if deemed necessary. Our COVID-19 tests take place curbside and you should have your results within a few days.

If you need prompt sore throat treatment, PhysicianOne Urgent Care is here for you. Check in online to expedite your visit!

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
