We’re a physician-led immediate care practice that’s been serving patients since 2008, and we’re pleased to offer our walk-in treatment services to local residents and visitors.

Ear Infection Symptoms

An ear infection occurs when a bacterium or virus infects the space behind the eardrum (the middle ear), often due to congestion and swelling caused by another illness. Some of the signs of an ear infection include:

  • Ear pain, which may worsen while lying down
  • Fluid drainage from the ear
  • Difficulty hearing

These symptoms usually develop suddenly. Children may also experience a fever, headache, loss of appetite, and balance problems.

Ear Infection Treatment

In many cases, ear infections will resolve on their own. However, you should seek professional treatment if:

  • Your ear infection symptoms last for more than one day
  • You’re experiencing severe ear pain
  • You have pus, blood, or other fluids draining from your ear
  • The person experiencing symptoms is less than six months old

It’s especially important to not ignore recurring ear infections, since these can lead to hearing impairment, eardrum tears, and infection in other areas of the body. For ear infections that don’t resolve on their own, treatment may involve:

  • Antibiotics
  • Pain medication
  • Anesthetic ear drops

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
