How to Receive Flu Tests & Treatment at Our Urgent Care Center in Somers, NY

Flu Test Somers NYPhysicianOne Urgent Care is pleased to offer influenza (flu) evaluations and treatment at our Somers, New York, location. If you ever suspect you have the flu, it’s important that you visit our urgent care center as soon as possible so that we can diagnose your condition. Our medical care providers can usually diagnose the flu by evaluating your symptoms and performing a physical exam.
You might be surprised to learn that oftentimes, we can diagnose the flu without using a flu test. In fact, flu tests are not considered an accurate way to detect the flu. In some cases, however, a flu test might be necessary. During a rapid flu test, we’ll swab your nose or throat to collect a mucus sample and let you know within about 15 to 20 minutes whether you have the flu. We’ll then recommend an appropriate course of treatment depending on the results. If you do have the flu, this might include a prescription for an antiviral medication like Tamiflu.

Why Is It Important to Get a Flu Test in Some Cases?

Some of the hallmark symptoms of influenza include coughing, a runny nose, a sore throat, fever, chills, achiness, and fatigue. But, did you know that many bacterial infections can cause similar symptoms? In many cases, doctors can accurately diagnose your condition based on your symptoms. If there’s uncertainty about what’s causing your symptoms, however, a flu test can confirm your diagnosis.
It’s critical that you seek treatment as soon as possible after you start feeling sick. That’s because the antiviral medications often used to treat the flu become less and less effective the longer you wait to start taking them. If you begin taking one of these medications within 48 hours after you first start experiencing symptoms, you could begin feeling better about a day sooner than you otherwise would. If you wait longer than 48 hours, though, the medication could have significantly less effect on your symptoms.

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
