Visit Our Mohegan Lake, NY, Urgent Care Center for Answers to Your Questions About Flu Tests & Treatment

Flu Test Mohegan Lake NYOftentimes, when people start feeling sick, they decide to ride out their symptoms for as long as possible before seeking treatment. They think that if they wait long enough, their symptoms might go away on their own, and they’ll avoid the time and expense of having to visit a clinic. If you suspect at all that you might have the flu, however, it’s critical that you undergo a physical and get treatment as soon as you possibly can. This is because the antiviral medications often used to treat the flu lose their effectiveness as time passes. If you take these medications within the first 48 hours after your symptoms appear, you can shorten your illness by about a day. After 48 hours, however, antiviral medications won’t have much of an effect on your symptoms. So, you’ll want to make sure you visit PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Mohegan Lake, New York, within two days after you start feeling ill.

But Do I Need a Flu Test?

The answer is no, you probably don’t need a flu test to receive the treatment you need. Some of our patients, however, do need a flu test to rule out other illnesses that mimic the flu. If our providers deem it necessary, you can receive this test at the PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Mohegan Lake. During a rapid influenza (flu) test, we’ll swab your nose or throat, process the sample in our on-site lab, and then review the results with you. And, we can usually accomplish all of this in under half an hour. If it turns out that you have the flu, we’ll recommend an appropriate course of treatment, which might include an antiviral medication such as Tamiflu. If the test rules out the flu, we’ll explore other possible causes of your symptoms.

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
