When to Seek Sore Throat Treatment in Waterbury, CT

Has your sore throat lasted for longer than a week? Is it accompanied by a fever over 101 degrees, a rash, or joint pain? Does your throat feel so swollen that your sleep has been affected? These are all signs that your sore throat might be strep throat, requiring a round of antibiotics to clear up. If so, you can come to PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Waterbury, Connecticut, for sore throat treatment from experienced providers.

Diagnosing Strep Throat

The provider you see will first learn about your symptoms and your medical history before performing a brief physical exam. He or she will use a lighted instrument to examine the back of your throat as well as your ears and nose and gently palpate your neck to feel for swollen lymph nodes. Then, your practitioner will likely do a simple throat swab to collect secretions that we can quickly analyze in our on-site lab. If the rapid strep test comes back negative, your practitioner may recommend a throat culture—which is more accurate—to fully rule out strep throat.

If you are diagnosed with strep throat, your practitioner will likely prescribe a round of antibiotics to take care of the bacterial infection. Please note that you’ll want to take all of the medication prescribed, even if you start to feel better sooner.

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
