I Think I Have The Flu. Do I Need a Flu Test?

Flu Test Stratford CTIn many cases, you probably do not need a flu test if you think you have the flu. In fact, flu tests are not very accurate in detecting the flu, so the decision to treat is not dependent on the results of a test. It’s much more important to see a medical care provider within 48 hours of experiencing flu symptoms since antiviral drugs are most effective if taken within that timeframe.
At PhysicianOne Urgent Care in Stratford, Connecticut, we are able to provide a physical exam, prompt diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment plan for patients who have the flu. We are open seven days per week with extended evening hours, so you can stop in at a time that works best with your schedule. And, you’ll be in, out, and on your way home with a treatment plan in no time at all as we offer minimal wait times.

What to Expect

When you come to PhysicianOne Urgent Care for a flu test, you will be seen by one of our seasoned medical providers who will first complete a physical exam to learn about the symptoms you’re experiencing, their severity, and how long you’ve been feeling under the weather. Then, if the provider feels it’s appropriate, the flu test will be administered. This consists of a simple swab of the inside of your nose or the back of your throat. We can have the results of the flu test ready in as little as 15 minutes.
After a flu diagnosis is made, the medical provider will make a determination about your treatment protocol. For many patients, especially those who may be at risk for developing complications from the flu, this will include antiviral medication and at-home remedies, such as getting lots of rest, staying hydrated, and taking an over-the-counter pain reliever when necessary.

Patient

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
