Muscle Strains Evaluated & Treated in Newtown, CT

Muscle Strains Newtown CT

Muscle strains frequently occur during sporting activities that overwork certain muscles, which can cause their fibers to tear. But this type of injury is not limited to athletes. Anyone can strain a muscle while lifting a heavy box or even just stepping off a curb. If it’s happened to you, PhysicianOne Urgent Care can help. We offer prompt and effective treatments for muscle strains and other non-life-threatening injuries at our walk-in urgent care center in Newtown, Connecticut.

The Diagnostic Process

When you come to PhysicianOne Urgent Care with a possible muscle strain, we’ll ask about the activity that triggered your pain and whether you sensed a “pop” in your muscle at the time the injury occurred. We’ll also ask about your other symptoms and whether you are experiencing reduced muscle strength or difficulty moving.

After discussing your symptoms and medical history, your provider will examine you, checking for muscle tenderness, spasms, weakness, and limited range of motion. If your exam points to a mild or moderate muscle strain, you may not need any additional testing. However, if a broken bone is suspected, your provider may order an X-ray (which can be performed on site) to rule out a fracture.

The Treatment Process

The duration of your muscle strain will depend on the location and severity of the injury. For instance, the symptoms of a mild back strain will typically improve within one to two weeks and resolve completely within four to six weeks, while a mild or moderate leg muscle strain can take up to 10 weeks to heal. To help relieve your muscle pain and swelling in the meantime, your provider may suggest that you take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) or muscle relaxer while resting at home. On the other hand, a severely strained muscle may need to be immobilized in a cast or brace for several weeks, followed by a targeted physical therapy program to promote full healing.

If you think you might have strained a muscle and your home treatment isn’t cutting it, come to PhysicianOne Urgent Care for professional medical attention. You don’t need an appointment to see one of our experienced providers!

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
