Medical Treatment for Bronchitis

While a case of bronchitis doesn’t always warrant a trip to your local urgent care center, you may want to seek care if your symptoms feel especially severe or if your cough has been lingering for more than three weeks. Shortness of breath, a high fever, and discolored or bloody mucus are also reasons to visit us for bronchitis treatment.

Bronchitis is most commonly a viral infection, which means antibiotics aren’t effective for symptom relief. We typically recommend other medications that can help, such as a cough suppressant, a fever reducer, or nasal spray. We may conduct a sputum test that can determine if your symptoms are caused by a bacterial infection. If so, we can then prescribe antibiotic medication.

Is It COVID-19?

Nowadays, being sick isn’t just an annoyance; it can also be cause for concern. You may be worried that your symptoms are actually a sign of COVID-19 and not bronchitis, especially since the two conditions produce many of the same symptoms. At PhysicianOne Urgent Care, we can conduct COVID-19 testing—we offer both rapid and PCR tests—to make sure your symptoms aren’t caused by this virus.

If you’re in need of prompt bronchitis treatment in Hamden, come to PhysicianOne Urgent Care. We are here for you.

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
