PhysicianOne Urgent Care proudly offers sports physicals for children and teenagers in Stratford, Connecticut, and the surrounding area. We understand how much time and effort goes into getting your child ready to play a sport, and we want to make the physical examination process as easy and convenient as possible for you.

What Is a Sports Physical?

If your child recently joined an athletic team and was told that he or she needs to undergo a physical before the season starts, then you’ve probably got quite a few questions on your mind. For example, what happens at a sports physical, and how much will it cost?

Kids almost always need a sports physical before they can play a new sport or join a new team, and oftentimes these physicals are required before each new season. During a sports physical, a provider reviews the child’s medical and family histories and performs a physical examination to determine whether they’re healthy enough to play. If the child is at risk, the practitioner may recommend some accommodations that would allow them to safely participate (for example, prescribing a different type of inhaler for a child with asthma).

A sports physical is not a replacement for your child’s annual physical, which is a more comprehensive examination that also considers your child’s developmental, emotional, and social health. Because insurance carriers typically cover only one physical each year (your child’s annual physical), you’ll likely have to pay out of pocket for a sports physical. At PhysicianOne Urgent Care, we charge an $80 flat fee for school, sports, and camp physicals.

Son kissing mother
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today.
