Flu Shots Enfield CT

If you’re in the Enfield, Connecticut, area and you need a flu shot, you can rely on PhysicianOne Urgent Care. We’ve been serving patients since 2008, and in addition to flu shots, we offer a number of other vaccinations that protect against diseases like diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, pertussis (whooping cough), and tetanus.

How Do Flu Shots Work?

If you’re like many people, you’ve heard about the importance of receiving an annual flu shot but don’t know how the vaccine actually prevents you from getting sick. Flu shots essentially teach your body how to respond to the influenza virus so that your immune system can more effectively defend against it should you ever encounter it in real life.

The seasonal influenza vaccine contains weakened or inactive versions of the flu strains that are expected to be most prevalent that year. Once you’ve received the flu vaccine, your immune system starts producing antibodies in response. If you encounter the same virus again, your body will more easily recognize it and remember how to fight it off. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that individuals get a flu shot before the end of October, since the flu vaccine can take up to two weeks to become effective and flu season generally runs from November through March.

Son kissing mother

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today.
