Are Telehealth Visits Covered by Insurance?

Picture of a sick man attending a telemedicine appointment using his laptop. If you’re in need of medical care but you don’t want to attend an in-person visit—perhaps you don’t feel up to leaving the house or you want to avoid germ exposure (either to yourself or to others)—there’s an alternative available to you: a Virtual Visit from PhysicianOne Urgent Care. We’re pleased to offer a state-of-the-art telemedicine service that allows patients to connect with our experienced practitioners over a secure videoconferencing platform, all from the comfort of their own home.

You may be wondering if this level of convenience comes with a high price tag. If you’re like many of our patients, cost is one of your top concerns. You’ll be glad to know that our Virtual Visits are often covered by insurance. Coverage will depend on your specific insurance plan, but most commercial health insurance carriers (as well as Medicare and Medicaid) now cover telemedicine visits. You may want to check with your insurance carrier ahead of time to confirm whether your plan covers this type of service. If your insurance plan offers coverage, we’ll be happy to directly bill your carrier for the appointment.

What if You Don’t Have Insurance?

Even if you don’t currently have health insurance, or if you’re insured but your plan doesn’t cover telemedicine services, you’re still in luck. PhysicianOne Urgent Care offers a $130 self-pay rate for Virtual Visits. You’ll be able to indicate that you want to pay this way when you go to book your telemedicine appointment online.

"The overall care I received was excellent! I also appreciate your affiliation with Yale New Haven Hospital."

Derby, CT

"Throughout the visit I felt like the staff really cared. The Doctor took his time talking with me about my symptoms, and I felt like he listened to all my concerns and took that into consideration when recommending the right treatment. Thank you!"

Hamden, CT

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
