What Is Access Health CT?

Access Health CT is the state of Connecticut's insurance marketplace. In other words, it's a place for Connecticut residents and small business owners to shop for and purchase health insurance. Access Health CT was put in place to satisfy the requirements of what is colloquially known as Obamacare and more officially known as the Affordable Care Act (Health Care Reform Law). The Affordable Care Act requires all states to have a health insurance exchange by October 1, 2013. The state of Connecticut created Access Health CT in response.

Who can use Access Health CT to shop for health insurance?

To purchase health insurance coverage through Access Health CT, you must meet several criteria. Access Health CT is available to United States citizens and legal permanent residents who reside in Connecticut and are not incarcerated.

Why should I use Access Health CT?

Under the Affordable Care Act, you must obtain health insurance or face a penalty. More importantly, health insurance provides peace of mind. Although you hope to never need it—or at least use it sparingly—it's a tremendous asset when you do. Access Health CT is for people who:

  • Need health insurance
  • Have access to insurance through an employer but it's too expensive
  • Are self-employed
  • Have been denied due to a preexisting health condition
