The best time to get a flu shot is by the end of October, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and flu shots are no-cost* all month at PhysicianOne Urgent Care

WESTWOOD, MA., OCTOBER 4, 2017 — According to the CDC, influenza vaccination should take place by the end of October. PhysicianOne Urgent Care is helping communities across Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Westchester, NY, by offering no-cost* flu shots through the end of the month. *Some exclusions apply, as mandated by certain health insurer regulations.

“Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself from the influenza virus,” said Dr. Jeannie Kenkare, PhysicianOne Urgent Care co-founder and Chief Medical Officer. “We recommend patients receive the influenza vaccine prior to the end of October. To further encourage patients to protect themselves this flu season, we are offering no-cost* flu shots through the end of the month.”

This time of year, it’s also important to take precautions to avoid spreading germs. “We recommend washing your hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer frequently, especially after shaking hands or touching surfaces that might be contaminated,” said Dr. Kenkare. “Don’t touch your face, including your mouth or nose, without first washing your hands, since we know that the flu virus can enter your body through transfer from surfaces to your hands and into your body through your nose and mouth. And don’t share food or drinks, as you’ll be sure to share the germs from contaminated cups and utensils that way.”

Influenza usually causes a number of unpleasant symptoms, including cough, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, fever, chills, headaches, body aches, and fatigue.

“If you think you might have the flu and are in a high-risk group (including young children, people over 65, and those with certain medical conditions), or are feeling very sick, it’s important to seek medical care early,” said Dr. Kenkare.

PhysicianOne Urgent Care is open every day of the week, including holidays, and has hours that extend beyond the normal primary care provider hours, allowing patients to be seen – and begin treatment, if appropriate – sooner.

"Throughout the visit I felt like the staff really cared. The Doctor took his time talking with me about my symptoms, and I felt like he listened to all my concerns and took that into consideration when recommending the right treatment. Thank you!"

Patient

"I had to take my son in for an ear infection following a sudden change in temperament at daycare. He was inconsolable the entire car ride but when we got there and by the time we left this care facility he was back to his normal happy go lucky little two year old boy. I highly recommend PhysicianOne Urgent Care."

Patient
Westwood, MA

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the attention you gave me last week. My son was started on antibiotics and ear drops. Within 24 hours he began to feel better. The poor kid had been going to school in tears because he was afraid of missing any more days, but feeling (and looking) just awful! He's not been able to even think about lacrosse practice, but thanks to starting him on antibiotics, he was thrilled to return to practice today."
